Coach humbled by recognition

Congratulations go out to Stampede and USAWR Coach James Gumbert on his recent recognition of receiving the Ikkos medal from the USOPC.

“I was truly unprepared and humbled by this recognition” said Gumbert.

“It is always an honor to be recognized for the work we put In”. This award should go  to the entire staff who worked tirelessly to be the best leaders and support for TEAM USAWR.

The Ikkos medal is awarded to coaches who excel on a daily basis and are at the top of their sport. This will be Gumbert‘s fourth recognition with this honor. Other previous recognitions have happened after the Beijing, London and Rio de Janeiro games.

Over the past three years - including the almost 11 month stoppage due to COVID, Gumbert led  the Eagles to 1st place and tournament championships at the WW RC 19 in Japan, Quad nations in GB in 2020 , a Gold medal in Lima Perú 2019 and a Silver Medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Improving his overall record to 209-28 over the past 16 years.
