The Texas Stampede wheelchair rugby team made an impressive showing at the NS9 Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, today, securing victories in both of their opening matches. The team faced off against the High Five and At-Large All-Stars, emerging victorious in each contest. Despite a sluggish start in their first game, the Stampede ramped up their intensity in the second, showcasing their resilience and team chemistry. Head coach Gabriel Garcia praised the team's performance, noting that while the first match was a bit off, their increased focus in the second was a sign of their growth and adaptability.
"We had a good day today," Garcia reflected. "Our first game, we played a little flat; however, we came out with better intensity and focus in our second game. Mike Shock played up a level, showing his veteran wit by being a defensive force in both games. Earl Bowser traded time with both Josh Smith and Liz Dunn. In true Stampede fashion, we leave the day with a warning for being too enthusiastic!!" The Stampede’s aggressive play and unyielding energy were evident throughout, with key performances from Shock, Bowser, Smith, and Dunn all contributing to the team's dominant defense and strategic offense.
Looking ahead, the Stampede will be facing two major challenges tomorrow: HostAbility 360 and the defending national champions, WWAR. The team's journey through the tournament will continue to be streamed live, allowing fans to follow all the action.
