Team France leader to compete for USWRA national title

Wheelchair rugby star Sebastien Verdin and Team France once again made history by capturing their third consecutive European Championship title this past weekend in The Hague, Netherlands. In a dominant showing, France reaffirmed its place at the top of European wheelchair rugby, with Verdin playing a critical role in the team’s unbeaten run. His dynamic presence on the court and steady leadership have made him a cornerstone of the French national squad, and this latest triumph further cements his international legacy.

For the past three seasons, Verdin has brought that same intensity across the Atlantic to the United States, competing with his club team, the Texas Stampede. His experience on both continents has made him one of the sport’s most seasoned and versatile athletes. Now, just days after sitting atop the podium in Europe, Verdin is shifting focus to the 2025 USWRA National Championship in Tampa, Florida, where he hopes to lead the Stampede to their second Division I title in three years. After winning the national championship in 2023 and finishing as runner-up in 2024, Verdin has his sights set on returning to the finals this weekend.

“It is a sense of pride that fills me after this victory,” Verdin said following the European Championship win. “Winning the top of Europe 3 times in a row is historic and doing it with this group makes me happy and proud. Proud of my teammates, this group that is basically a family. In 2023 I managed to make the USA champion and European champion chain, so why not do it again in the other direction! I can't wait to be there and meet my other rugby family, which this time has a Texas accent.” His passion and cross-continental dedication embody the spirit of adaptive sports and inspire teammates and fans alike.

As he continues to evolve as an elite competitor, Verdin is also focusing on strengthening his leadership within the Stampede locker room. With a unique perspective shaped by international play and deep tournament experience, he’s poised to be a key figure in guiding the team through championship weekend.
