Team Orange and Black both have good starts in Irving

Day one of the 6th annual RISE Invitational featured the Stampede dividing into teams Orange and Black. Team Orange would begin the tournament against the Boise Bombers. The boys from Texas jumped out to a quick 8 goal lead led behind game high scorer Chris Bond. Going to the bench the team was shored up by the balance of Curtis and Waker who helped surge the Stampede to a 12 point half point lead.

The second half featured Zupan and Groff providing a powerful punch both with the high low and the balance of the 2's. "The number of line ups we were able to run really helped to put some distance between us and Boise", said coach Gumbert. "They have a talented team and this was a good challenge for us". Team Orange wins 51-37.

Right on the heals of that game Team Black took the field to play Sharp Edge. The blacks led behind Symons Kirkland Schacherbauer and Garcia were able to put up a 4 point lead early and never trailed. "The boys did a great job of following the game plan", said Gumbert.  "They never trailed and challenged themselves at every line change".

The Black team was shored up by veteran Shawn Meredith back after a recent injury and Reece "Goose" Whittaker.  Both provided solid minutes and played good against a salty Sharp team. The final, Texas Black 55 Sharp 42.

The nightcap would see Orange vs Black in an inter squad scrimmage. The game would prove to be the best of the day with the game not being decided until the final two minutes as the Orange edged the Black 51-48.  "It was an excellent game for both sides" said Gumbert.

The team returns to action tomorrow. Watch www.fearthesteer.com for more details.
