Stampede drives on to National Championships next week

The Stampede came back from the 2015 Mountain Sectional with a disappointing second place.  Texas who went 3-1 on the weekend lost the championship game to Phoenix 46-56 on Sunday. “We really played well all weekend but we had a tough start on the game with the Heat and never were able to get back in the match” said Coach James Gumbert.

The tournament a qualifier for next week’s National Championships in Louisville KY had the Stampede going through 3 games on Saturday undefeated.  “We did a great job using our bench with everyone contributing to the victories” said Gumbert.  “One of our keys to success this season has been everyone doing something to make the team better”.   It showed as newcomers carried the team in games against TIRR and U of A.  “A season of development showed signs of coming together for sure” said Gumbert.

The match against Phoenix however proved different.  “We had 4 or 5 unforced turnovers in the first 6 minutes of the game.  We just can’t spot good teams that many goals and expect to stay close”, said Gumbert.   And while the odds were against them the squad chipped away at the deficit and managed to get the game back to 2 points. They just could not finish a comeback. “We just couldn’t get over the hump”, he said.
