The Texas stampede started day two of the 2015 national championships with high ambitions. The day however would take another course as Texas would drop two games to mountain sectional rivals the Tucson renegades and the Phoenix heat.

Texas came out against Tucson looking to improve upon day one only to meet a salty Tucson defense. The stampede traded goals in the first quarter but fell behind  9-11.  We really believed we were going to be able to put Tucson in a tough place with the defensive changes we had made" said Gumbert. Those changes however would not be the answer in the first half as Texas was down by as many as six points.

"We just kept chipping away at their lead" said goose Whittaker. The stampede would pull to within three at the end of the third and came out to the fourth with a pathway to even the game. The stampede with 50 seconds left in the game caused a turnover and looked to be able to tie the game and send it into overtime only to have a costly turnover that hit Texas with 45 seconds left on the clock. Tucson was able to close out the game and win a close one 53 to 52.

"We really played hard To get back in the game" said coach Gumbert.,,  "to fall short by one point was bittersweet".

The team had  little time to get down on on the loss of the game. As they had the Phoenix in just two short hours to play in a crossover to advance to the national championship game. The team came out on fire causing two turnovers and a jump within the first minute of the game.  
"Our D really hit them" said stampede two pointer Mike Schacherbauer. The teams would trade goals and turnovers throughout the first two periods and at the end Texas was tired with Phoenix 30-30  

The team continue to fight through the third but costly turnovers would begin to separate the heat from the stampede. In the end the heat would win the game 60-50 and advance to the 2015 national championship game.

The stampede will compete for third and fourth place tomorrow at 9 AM. "We are really focused on coming out and playing our best game of the year and bringing home a third-place trophy" said James Gumbert. For more information go to www.fearthesteer.com.
