Stampede reach early goals and look to future

The Texas Stampede finished their 2nd invitational in 3 weeks at the 28th annual Best of the West Tournament in San Diego California. The Stampede placed 5th and ended with a 3-2 record.

“We had a solid tournament” said coach James Gumbert. “The team started slow and gained momentum the entire tournament”. “I am excited to see where this team goes next”.

The weekend began with the team going against two preseason top five teams, Phoenix and University of Arizona.  “We were eager to test our tenacity and talent” said Emily Shryock “and we felt like we set a solid foundation for the rest of the weekend”.  Both games were close at first but the Stampede struggled to close them out. “Despite losing both games I was optimistic that we would be able to rebound” said Bryan Kirkland.

And rebound they did as Saturday the Stampede squared off against two west coast teams. Sharp and Northridge both would showcase their unique talents against the Texas side.  “We took the opportunity to grow as a team and we were satisfied with our performance” said Jeff Butler. The Stampede were led by international import Thomas Moylan.  The baby face Irish man led all scorers in both games. “It was exciting to see the play style difference between America and Europe”. His ability to adapt was evident as Texas won both games.

Sunday would be a test as the last match was Texas vs Ontario. “We came out with a lot of energy and purpose” said Mason Symons. The team jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back winning the game and finishing the tournament. 3-2.

“We accomplished a lot but have a long way to go this year” said Gumbert. Follow the Stampede on their journey at www.fearthesteer.com.
