Texas begins busy 2018 schedule

The Texas Stampede made the voyage down to Pearland, Texas last weekend to participate in the 2018 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) wheelchair rugby tournament. While the number of opposing teams was limited… the quality of play and opportunity to grow as a team was in abundance. This stampede squad, consisting of nine athletes, beat every team in the field with the exception of the Minnesota Steelheads who are currently ranked second in the nation. There was competitive play at all skill levels as several Houston, Austin, and San Antonio athletes also competed at the Division II level. "It can be tough to get quality reps in when playing with a team that has such a deep and experienced  bench”, said Jared Compton “ these types of tournaments are great to help develop those that are new to the sport."

The Stampede will head to the Tampa invitational this coming weekend for a highly competitive Division I tournament consisting of 10 teams, two of which are international. They will look to rebound against Minnesota and play tough in what is likely going to be a prescreening of this year's Division I national tournament. ”Tampa will be a great opportunity for us to continue to gel as a team and analyze this year's tough competition” says long time Stampede member Jeff Butler.
