Texas goes 3-0 on First day of competition

The Texas stampede, led behind Jeff Butler and Alex Pabon began their drive to improve at the demolition derby in Birmingham Alabama.

The 21st annual installment of the invitational was the third tournament in four weeks from the squad from Texas. “We have been on the road quite a bit this year and are looking to have a good performance at this tournament “said Coach James Gumbert.

The team begin the day against the punishers from DC. The Stampede line of Moylan Pabon Kirkland and Butler started the game and caused four quick turnovers that led to a 11 to 7 lead at the end of one. “We were really looking to get a quick start on DC” said Captain Gabriel Garcia. Texas quickly went to their bench and relied on the youth of Curtis. and Symons to finish out the second quarter. “It’s really neat to be able to have a bench that we can go to and have confidence that we are able to stay with our opponents” said Garcia. The second half of the game was dominated by juicy juice Compton as he emerged from being a role player to main ball handler. “We were really surprised with juice play today” said Gumbert. The Stampede take DC 54-32.

Game two of the tournament had the Stampede going against D 1 opponent shepherd smash. Shepherd led by USA WR athlete Rob Deller would pose a early challenge to the team. “We were just trying to stop their pick and roll” said Gumbert. The previous tournaments proved beneficial in this area as much work had been used to stop the pick and roll. The Stampede jumped up to a six point lead and never looked back. “It was good to see new players in some of the established lines” said captainJeff Butler. The Stampede would increase their lead in the second half to 15 and win the game 60-47.

Game three of the tripleheader was against the quadcrushers from Tennessee. Featuring the bench of the team the Stampede challenged each other to be able to play error-free. The team responded and gave a strong performance winning the game 54-22. “It was a long day for us and we’re going to have another long day tomorrow” said Bryan Kirkland. “We got a lot accomplished but we got a long way to go” he went on to say.
