Stampede improve on tournament rank

The Texas Stampede competed in the annual Metal and muscle tournament at the George R Brow convention center in Houston Texas. The 16 team tournament featured some of the best talent the US had to offer. “We were very excited coming into this tournament” said Coach James Gumbert. “We had played in a major tournament in Las Vegas a few weeks back and had made some adjustments to our play and our roster and wanted to see what they would look like against the best in the country”.

The Stampede opened the tournament with victories over MedSTAR and TIRR from Houston Texas. Completing pool play on Saturday Texas squared off against the Phoenix heat and lost their first match of the tournament. “We really played hard but didn’t play very smart” said Gumbert “we still have a long way to go before we think we can just come in and beat anyone”.

Next up for the team was the Denver harlequins. Denver the eventual winner of the tournament jumped out on the stampede and never looked back. “It was humbling” said Gumbert. “Denver has a lot of quality players and played smart”, he said.

The 3/4 game was a rematch of Saturday’s game between Texas and Phoenix. The Stampede traded goals with the heat for over a quarter before they were able to begin to put a little separation between them and their opponents “We Tried a number of different things including running newer players, and new lines” said Gumbert. “It took us awhile to pull away from the heat, but I’m proud that we stayed with the plan and it worked”. Heading into the last minute of the game the match was tied and the stampede had the ball. Texas elected to score quick and play Key defense. The tactic paid off as the Stampede was able to hold off the heat with a less second stop.

Texas takes home third place in a quality win.
