Stampede Finish tournament 3-1

The Texas Stampede wheelchair rugby team left an indelible mark at the Paul Gray Memorial Classic, held from March 15th to 17th, 2024. Sponsored by C&R Medical, the tournament's title sponsor and steadfast supporter of the Stampede, the event not only showcased thrilling athletic feats but also underscored the profound impact of sponsorship on the lives of athletes both on and off the court. Gratitude permeated the atmosphere as players, coaches, and fans alike acknowledged the pivotal role of C&R Medical in fostering inclusivity and empowerment within the wheelchair rugby community.

Despite valiant efforts on the court, the Stampede found themselves in a three-way tie with Houston and Boise, ultimately securing second place due to point differentials. The return of Schacherbauer, after a five-month absence, injected renewed vigor into the team, his presence immediately felt as he contributed significantly to the Stampede's performance. Alongside standout players like Jared Compton, Alejandro Pabon, Earl Bowser, and rookie Josh Smith, Schacherbauer’s  return bolstered the team's cohesion and competitive edge.

The tournament's Best in Class Awards served as a testament to the Stampede's talent and dedication, with players like Compton, Pabon, Bowser, and Smith earning recognition for their outstanding contributions. In a pivotal match against the Brooks Bandits, every member of the Stampede roster rose to the occasion, with notable performances from Alejandro Pabon and Bryan Kirkland leading the team in scoring and assists. Defensive stalwarts Bowser, Garcia, Dunn, and Smith showcased their prowess, consistently thwarting the Bandits' offensive onslaught to secure a decisive victory.

As the tournament draws to a close, the Texas Stampede now shifts their focus to the upcoming national championship in May in Tampa, Florida. With their sights set on defending their title, the Stampede will carry the lessons learned and momentum gained from the Paul Gray Memorial Classic into their pursuit of excellence on the national stage.
