The Texas Stampede hosted the first Texas Cup in the 2017–18 series. The event held at Texas State recreational center in San Marcos Texas was attended by The Houston Texans, the Texas Stampede, and members from previous San Antonio teams.
The two matches were very competitive between the Stampede and the Texans. "for the first time out, I was pleased with how quickly we were able to get on the same page", said Coach James Gumbert. "we were competitive, and certainly have lots of work to do, but considering we started 3 players that were not on our roster last year I am excited for the rest of the season" he went on to say.
The result of the matches were split between the Stampede and the Texans with each team claiming a victory. Highlights from the game were the emergence of Thomas Moylan and Fabian Lavoia from both sides respectively. Both are international players that have joined the Texas sides to complement existing athletes in the programs. "The international players each brought something to their teams "said Gumbert. "It will be interesting to see them and how much their teams are able to improve over the coming season".
A highlight of the Texas Cup was the return of the San Antonio program. Six members, veteran and new alike turned up to play a match between members from both Houston and Texas. "The San Antonio program has been through a lot the past two years. To see them back out on the court was great for everyone". "At the end of the day we want to see the San Antonio program thrive. Today was a good step in getting them back on their feet". Said Gumbert.
Next up for the Stampede is the TurnStone Invitational in Fort Wayne Indiana November 3rd through the 5th. For more details on the Stampede go to www.fearthesteer.com.
