Eight athletes from the Texas Stampede traveled to Birmingham Alabama for the 21st annual demolition derby hosted by the Lakeshore foundation. Due to a couple teams not being able to make it this was a seven team round robin tournament which made for a busy weekend with 7 games over a 3 day period.

The Stampede got off to an aggressive start defeating the Med Star punishers from DC, Shepherd Smash from Atlanta, and Cumberland Quadcrushers from Tennessee going on to finish the day 3-0.

Day 2 would see the Texas stampede remaining undefeated with decisive wins over the Tampa General‘s, instate rival TIRR Texans, and Lakeshore demolition. “Everyone got significant court time and this tournament was the culmination of all our hard work and practice beginning to pay off” said Irish import Tomas Moylan.

Stampede went into Day 3 gunning for the first place finish and ended up playing Shepherd Smash in the championship game. The stampede came out solid and dominated the game from the first whistle with contribution from the offensive trio of Pabon, Kirkland, and Moylan. The final result was 54-38.

Most players from the stampede enjoyed seeing the Philadelphia Eagles defeat New England Patriots at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport on the trip back to Austin. Special thank you to our equipment manager and true MVP Hez Rennerfeldt.

Stampede athlete and team USA member Alex Pabon put it best,” It’s not just the rostered players and coach, but the staff and support that we have  enables us to do what we do. Keep grinding !!”

The Stampede will travel to Denver in March before entering the postseason with confidence and an eye on another national title.
