The Texas Stampede, has had a strong start in the Code of Honor Cup, which is taking place this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky. The Stampede's opening day featured impressive victories over both WWAR and St. Louis, teams filled with former and current USA Paralympians. The team’s performance showed incredible skill and teamwork, as they took on these formidable opponents, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting tournament.
Head Coach Gabriel Garcia praised his team's performance after their first day of competition, saying, "We had a good day on court. Everyone on the team played well after being off since November. I liked the way we communicated and used the court together. We have a big day of competition tomorrow and are looking forward to it." Garcia's positive outlook was reflected in the on-court chemistry, as the Stampede executed their game plan with precision and determination.
The victories were made possible by a well-balanced roster that saw three key lines working together seamlessly. The first line of Verdin, Pabon, Kirkland, Bowser, and Compton led the charge, with the second line of Curtis, Pabon, and Dunn keeping the momentum going. Finally, the line of Hennagir, Verdin, Kirkland, and Dunn closed out the wins. Garcia was especially proud of his team’s depth, commenting, "I was super proud to see the way we were able to substitute and use the entire team for the victories."
Looking ahead, the Stampede returns to action tomorrow with a tough challenge against the University of Michigan. Thanks to their impressive victories today, the Stampede has earned a crossover match against one of the top teams in Pool A later in the day, setting the stage for a thrilling continuation of the Code of Honor Cup.
